The frost past Saturday morning might have been the last (visual) sign of winter. The pale colours made me think of water colours. Perhaps I should give it a go, for the first time in many years?
Water, reed and the occasional boat. This is what it looks like where I grew up, by one of Sweden’s many lakes. How special to have this view also here, in a city close to Amsterdam, in one of the most densely populated countries in Europe. I ignore the car traffic and just let my eyes indulge in this view. My eyes drink, like a thirsty wanderer.

In the end, I didn’t do any water colour painting at all past weekend. Instead, I played with a pair of brass earrings, experimenting with beads of different size and style.
I’m curious to know: which version do you prefer – left or right?

Such lovely photographs! And I’d forgotten you were in the Netherlands, which I visited in 2019. Funny, I preferred the antique metal bead version before but now I lean toward the one on the left…in the end, I think I agree with Claudia – the tiny beads work best in this design.

What you describe here often happens with me: first I prefer one, then the other… That’s also why I love to hear different views and preferences from different people, so thanks for contributing!
Ah, you were in time to visit The Netherlands before the pandemic – I hope you liked it!

We loved the Netherlands. We stayed in Leiden for about 5 days, visited Rotterdam while we were there, and met with a blogging friend, too. We went to Belgium, then Germany, and finally Amsterdam for a few days before flying home. We saw a great Rembrandt exhibit at the Rijksmuseum (and Night Watch, of course!). I would have to say that above all we really liked the people in the Netherlands.

It sounds like you had a great stay! Me too, I like Dutch people, they’re generally very relaxed and friendly, and always open for a chat.

Aw, thank you so much, that makes me happy to hear! I have a tendency to jump between different styles and projects, so yes… wait and see! 🙂

The earrings resemble the boat in the photo in shape and color. I like your what seems to be nature-inspired designs. Very cool! I think both versions are lovely.

Thank you, I’m glad you like them! Yes, it struck me too (after taking the photo) that the boat and the earrings go well together. I like to work with shapes, and all of a sudden, they bring associations.

The pale colors of winter remind me of the more subdued tones of some Mother of Pearl. It is lovely to see what informs your work.

I had not thought of Mother of Pearl at all here, perhaps because I then think of something shiny, but now that you say it, yes, it’s that kind of colour scheme! You added yet another layer here – thank you so much!

I would put on the left earring. The colouring is very harmonious and the proportions fit at this size. They look more extravagant than the right ear jewellery.
Best regards from southern Germany!

The beads to the left do have a nice colour, it’s difficult to capture it well in a photo, the shine is white-greyish, and goes well with the brass. Thank you for sharing your preference, I appreciate it!

I definitely prefer the right. I think the beads are in better proportion to the metal and don’t overpower it as the other set seems to as I see it.

I see what you mean, the beads to the left would be better matched with a bigger piece of metal. Thanks Claudia, I always appreciate your input!
